Of late there have been a few comments made by commissioners on other websites (Mancunian Matters) about the authenticity of the Save Trafford General petition.
I am appalled that the commissioners would try to undermine and disregard the depth of feeling that the people of Trafford have regarding the future of their local hospital.
Every signature on our petition is genuine, because we have watched every one sign up. I am incredibly proud of the blood, sweat and tears invested in this campaign by each and every person who came out to campaign most weekends across Trafford and by the thousands who have given their willing support.
We have engaged and had a genuine dialogue with Trafford residents – we have even done the Commissioners job for them by signposting people to the consultation document.
We have scrutinised and questioned the arguments put forward by Commissioners. As residents and potential patients, it is our democratic right to do so. Once our services are gone they are gone for ever – we are not prepared to stand by and watch this happen without putting up a fight.
We have called for a genuine, honest debate ….which has been denied us. The Commissioners ahve failed to engage with people in a genuine dialogue and discussion.
I am still waiting for a Freedom of Information request on A&E attendances from April 1st to the present day; also mental health attendances at A&E (both these requests been ignored. By so doing the Trust have broken the law, by breaching the 20 day deadline on replies. We can only speculate about why they are not prepared to give this information. I have requested an internal review for both FoI requests now).
I also requested a copy of the business case for integrated care which I was promised would be shared with me (I am still waiting). What happened to public servants working for the public and displaying transparency and accountability?
As a campaign, we are not opposed to change, but we are a campaign that is opposed to secrecy. dishonesty and lack of transparency. We will continue to challenge commissioners.
Please come and join us for our torchlight procession and vigil on Wednesday outside Trafford General.
